Right before Thanksgiving we were all supposed to see an update for WordPress Core to go to 5.0 and with that they plan to merge Gutenberg into the system and offer the classic editor as a plugin. As of this date you can have it the other way around, all your pages and posts are created in a text editor and if you choose, you can do a plugin add-on to get Gutenberg, but once WordPress 5.0 comes out that choice will be gone.
The new targeted dates are in January 2019 December 6th and as most have learned Gutenberg up until this point has been kicked down the line, but it appears WordPress feels ready to finally have us use this highly debated editor.
As A Web Development Company that offers Maintenance we will be handling the upcoming update with clients website in mind, our hope is that they let us click the update button so we can minimize and anticipate any bugs that may arise. Websites that have custom HTML written in text editor pages, or use some sort of plugin that lets snippets, page building, etc capabilities happen are best having the update performed in a test environment to ensure a clients website doesn’t go down and let’s make a solid plan to make any code changes necessary so their website can and will work with the new update.
If you are not paying for maintenance or find that your website has issues when WordPress 5.0 comes out we are always happy to help people get their websites back on track and fixed.
