Welcome to October and new rules for Google Chrome users! Starting October 1st Google Chrome version 62 will change how your information will be viewed by visitors to your website. If your website has any input form fields and your website does not have a SSL Certificate it will deemed insecure. When an individual begins to type information into the field a “not secure” message will pop up next to your address in the address bar.  As an article by SearchEngineland.com stated “Beginning in October 2017, Chrome will show the ‘Not secure’ warning in two additional situations: when users enter data on an HTTP page, and on all HTTP pages visited in Incognito mode.” This change is just a beginning change for the long term plan Google has to make all websites that are just HTTP deemed not secure. The outline their plan for a more secure web here and have this resource for developers on how to avoid the Not Secure Warning.

So What does this mean for you? This means that if you collect any information and your website does not have an SSL Certificate to show as HTTPS vs HTTP visitors will be warned that their information is not secure.

What can you do? You have 2 options, remove all forms from your website, which frankly in this day in age is unrealistic. Or purchase an SSL Certificate for your website to make it HTTPS.

With all the news in the last couple months about data breaches, it is a good time to review your website and decide how you can better secure the information you collect.

JS Web Solutions can help you purchase and implement a SSL Certificate to help you ensure the best secure experience for your website visitors. Contact us today if your website uses input form fields and you need help securing your website.

At our sister website WP Service Call we offer maintenance and as part of a plan we can help you implement a SSL Certificate and offer Security Monitoring of your website.
