redesign website, WordPress Updates

If you have been thinking about doing a website redesign right now might be the perfect time to seriously take the idea into consideration.

Recently with the WordPress release of version 5.5 millions of websites experienced bugs that broke certain functionalities of their websites. The reason? WordPress will no longer be supporting a piece of code that makes a bridge from old java-script to modern code systems.

We have a temporary fix

With this update deprecating old script code and it breaking so many plugins, themes, and websites there is a temporary fix. However the fix may involve something as simple as a temporary plugin, or rolling back your WordPress install to a lower version than 5.5.

This fix is only temporary

Even with a developer going in and giving you a quick fix for now your troubles will not be over. The old code has to be deprecated/retired. So if you are running a theme or plugin that has not been updated in a long time or is using outdated scripts, your site will eventually break. WordPress has a plan to move us all forward with more updated standards, and to be honest they should. It closes holes that become security headaches and makes you vulnerable to your website being hacked.

Updating your website is in your best interest

If you are finding that you are now in a holding pattern and no longer able to update your website because of your old theme or an old plugin, now is the time to make a plan to move forward with WordPress.

If it is as simple as a plugin no longer working because it has not be updated in a really long time (like over a year) now is the time to find a new plugin or consider having something custom built.

However, if it is your theme that is outdated you will need to weigh the cost of seeing if it can be customized in some way to move forward vs just having a new theme built for your website.

Review your website with a developer and make your plan now

If you are looking at having to get a whole new theme because it has been a few years, then the cost to also have the look refreshed and minor updated becomes minimal extra cost. With a new theme it will mean new development even if it looks the exact same way.

An experienced Web Developer, like JS Web Solutions, can review your website now and let you know what will need to be done to keep your website safe and up to date as WordPress makes technology updates. We can help give you the best course of action for your website and help keep the headaches of guessing why a feature no longer works off your plate.

So now is the time to review your website and if you have been considering a redesign or update, now is the time to schedule a scoping project and start having your website redeveloped for 2021.
