Recently I have been reading about design and where it fits in the future of development. With the release of Gutenberg for WordPress I have witnessed a fracture happening among developers; those that don’t necessarily want to go with the block building capabilities and those, like our company, embracing the change for the future.
What I have learned in my journey to find my place, is that I am needed more than I expected!

With Builders and Theme Builders, along with now writing post and pages in blocks in WordPress, as a web designer I have been wondering where this will leave me? I am not just a designer but also a front end developer, that now is writing less HTML and CSS than before because of the popularity of these DIY/WYSIWYG Builders that allow clients to have more control of making edits to their webpages themselves.
I find that clients still need help implementing a design, as well as training to use the builder. I also, in my research learned that just because someone can now build a page doesn’t mean they know how to do the research or sourcing that I do when I work with a website.
The keys to success of a website are still fundamentally the same.
It takes a collaborative group to produce a successful product. When I produce a design for a website, landing page, or if you will product I have to take into consideration not just the consumer, but the functionality needed, the opinion of the owner or executives, and the employees that will actually need to use the website. Data has shown that companies that allow design to go through product quality, market position, usability, A/B testing, and take into consideration more than what is just surface design those that launch websites that have real research backing are the most successful out there!
Designing a website is more than just building cool graphics and layouts for my clients. I want them to be successful so I take doing the research and getting the opinions as an important part of the experience. That is something that can’t be done out of the box, that part of the design still takes a person.
